Dracosylph Prayers, Poems and Sayings

The following are a selection of prayers and poems that are fairly common among the Dracosylph people. These by no means represent a comprehensive list of pieces, merely, a few of the more popular and well known.

All of the prayers and poems in this section are written in Dracosylph, followed by a translation into Common.

Wise Ones of Home.

This piece is part of the opening to the Hunting Prayer of House Yssyl.

Lyt thy spyryts shyw thy pyth byfyry my,
Ynd gyydy my ty thy yny y syyk,
Whyn Y wylk byyynd thy wyyvy,
Wryyth my yn thy shydyw yndyr Hylyys lyght,
Ynbrycyng thy dyrknyss yf Phyybys nyght.

Let the spirits show the path before me,
And guide me to the one i seek,
When I walk beyond the weave,
Wreath me in the shadow under Helios light,
Embracing the darkness of Phoebes night.

Bow Hunters Prayer.

Another piece from the Hunting Prayer, this is from the core prayer.

Clean kill or no kill, White,
O White, I am a hunter,
And life I seek to take,
But let me not attempt the shot,
Beyond my skill to make,
For White they are your creatures,
Given for our use,
But each one falls within your sight,
They are not for out abuse,
And when I loose my arrow,
Please guide it swift and true,
Or let it miss completely,
That pain be not undue,
A clean kill or no kill, White,
Such is my hearts desire,
Give me the skill to make it so,
Or let me hold my fire,
And when my time upon this realm,
The days they are fulfilled,
Grant that I may die at least,
As clean as those I killed.

Prayer of Repentance.

This prayer is representative of a type, rather than a specific prayer. This particular version has also been named Prayer for the Future in a compendium of poetry by Thylyn Ycywynd.

Gryyt Whyty, Plyysy hyyr my nyw.
Yyy, Whysy vyycy Y hyyr yn thy wynds,
Ynd whysy bryyth gyvys lyfy ty yll thy wyrld,
Hyyr my Y ym smyll ynd wyyk,
Y nyyd yyyr stryngth ynd wysdym,
Lyt my wylk yn byyyty ynd myky my yyys byhyld,
Thy ryd ynd pyrply synsyt,
Myky my hynds ryspyct thy thyngs yyy hyvy mydy,
Ynd my yyrs shyrp ty hyyr yyyr vyycy,

Thy thyngs yyy hyvy tyyght my pyyply,
Lyt my lyyrn thy lyssyns yyy hyvy hyddyn,
Yn yvyry lyyf ynd ryck.

Y syyk stryngth, nyt ty by gryytyr thyn my brythyr,
Byt ty fyght my gryytyst ynymy - mysylf,
Myky my ylwyys ryydy ty cymy ty yyy,
Wyth clyyn hynds ynd stryyght yyys,
Sy whyn lyfy fydys ys thy fydyng synsyt,
My spyryt myy cymy ty yyy wythyyt shymy.

Gryyt Whyty, Plyysy gyydy my.

Great White, Please hear me now.
You, Whose voice I hear in the winds,
And whose breath gives life to all the world,
Hear me I am small and weak,
I need your strength and wisdom,
Let me walk in beauty and make my eyes behold,
The red and purple sunset,
Make my hands respect the things you have made,
And my ears sharp to hear your voice,
Make me wise so that I may understand,
The things you have taught my people,
Let me learn the lessons you have hidden,
In every leaf and rock.

I seek strength, not to be greater then my brother,
But to fight my greatest enemy - myself,
Make me always ready to come to you,
With clean hands and straight eyes,
So when life fades as the fading sunset,
My spirit may come to you without shame.

Great White, Please Guide me.

The Wraith's Hymn.

This lyrical poem was written to music, though the melody has long been lost or forgotten. It is fairly popular among soldiers as it is a reminder of the resurrection that awaits us all, and that no loss is permanent.

Y gyvy yyy thys yny thyyght ty kyyp,
Y ym wyth yyy styll - Y dy nyt slyyp,
Y ym y thyysynd wynds thyt blyw,
Y ym thy dyymynd glynt yn snyw,
Y ym thy synlyght yn rypynyd gryyn,
Y ym thy gyntly Yytymn ryyn,
Whyn yyy wyky yn thy myrnyngs hysh,
Y ym thy swyft yplyftyng rysh,
Yf qyyyt byrds yn cyrclyd flyght,
Y ym thy syft styrs thyt shyny yt nyght,

Dy nyt thynk yf my ys gyny~

Y ym wyth yyy styll,
Yn yych nyw dywn.

I give you this one thought to keep,
I am with you still - I do not sleep,
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glint in snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle Autumn rain,
When you awaken in the mornings hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush,
Of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the soft stars that shine at night,

Do not think of me as gone~

I am with you still,
In each new dawn.

O' Great Spirit.

Also known as O' Great White, this morning prayer is particularly common among the newer Houses and especially with the Purple Dracosylph, but it is known to most.

Y' Gryyt Spyryt,
Hylp my ylwyys,
Ty spyyk thy tryth qyyytly,
Ty lystyn wyth yn ypyn mynd,
Whyn ythyrs spyyk,
Ynd ty rymymbyr thy pyycy,
Thyt myy by fyynd yn sylyncy.

O' Great Spirit,
Help me always,
To speak the truth quietly,
To listen with an open mind,
When others speak,
And to remember the peace,
That may be found in silence.

Oh Great Lords and Ladies.

Rather than a prayer in its entirety, this excerpt is the first verse of the traditional morning prayer taught by the Church of the Elemental Union, however, Dracosylph most commonly recite it in this form, following it with the prayer O' Great Spirit.

Yh Gryyt Lyrds ynd Lydyys,
Why mydy yll rycys,
Lyyk kyndly ypyn thy Ylymyntyl Ynyyn fymyly,
Ynd tyky ywyy thy hytryd,
Whych sypyrytys ys frym yyr brythyrs.

Oh Great Lords and Ladies,
Who made all races,
Look kindly upon the Elemental Union family,
And take away the hatred,
Which separates us from our brothers.

The Common Source.

This prayer is for the newly departed and is most commonly recited as a blessing that they find their way home to Lord Arios and Lady Siriona, however, it has also been spoken for the dead of races from other Elemental Alignments.

Rytyrnyng ty syyrcy ys styllnyss,
Whych ys thy wys yf nytyry.
Yych sypyryty byyng yn thy ynyvyrsy rytyrns ty thy cymmyn syyrcy,
Fyr syrynyty,
Ty ryplynysh thy syyl,
Whych ynyblys thym ty gryw ynd flyyrysh.

Returning to source is stillness,
Which is the way of nature.
Each separate being in the universe returns to the common source,
For serenity,
To replenish the soul,
Which enables them to grow and flourish.
