Merchant:

Merchant Ranking covers two options, one being the ownership of a shop or a series of shops - while the other option is to be a part of a caravan/ family that moves across the nations of Urutau.

Both have advantages and disadvantages, reflected in the strengths and weaknesses of being placed in one location all the time or being on the move constantly, having no roots in any one community.

Level One: Minor Trade Operation:

- Trading Family: The Minor Trading Family should consist of two additional family members (may be player characters or they may be generated as nonplayer characters under the control of the Trade Referee) that travel to trade and have no base of operations to trade out of.
- The family gets 1 Gold Crowns worth of stock to trade at events, which is replenished annually at the start of a gaming year if the main character has returned home during the Winter Period.

- Shop: The Minor Trade operation is run out of a small shop, located in a specified location within a community of the characters home. The character running the business is helped by one additional partner (may be a player character sharing the investment risks otherwise the partner will be generated as a non-player character under the control of the Trade Referee).
- The shop gets 1 Gold Crowns worth of Stock to trade with if an event is at that location.
- The Shop Owner (or owners) share an annual income of 1 Gold Crown profit issued at the start of a gaming year.

Minor Trade Operations costs: 10 Experience Points that may be shared between player characters investing in the business.

Level Two: Average Trade Operation:

- Trading Family: The Average Trading Family should consist of three additional family members (may be player characters or they may be generated as non-player characters under the control of the Trade Referee) that travel to trade and have no base of operations to work out of.
- The family gets 10 Gold Crowns worth of stock to trade at events, which is replenished annually at the start of a gaming year if the main character has returned home during the Winter Period.

- Shop: The Average Trade operation is run out of a shop, located in a specified location within a community of the characters home. The character running the business is helped by two additional partners (may be player characters sharing the investment risks otherwise the partners will be generated as nonplayer characters under the control of the Trade Referee).
- The shop gets 10 Gold Crowns worth of Stock to trade with if an event is at that location.
- The Shop Owner (or owners) share an annual income of 10 Gold Crowns profit issued at the start of a gaming year.

Average Trade Operations costs: 20 Experience Points that may be shared between player characters investing in the business.

Level Three: Major Trade Operation:

- Trading Family: This Major Trading Family should consist of five additional family members (may be player characters or they may be generated as nonplayer characters under the control of the Trade Referee) that travel to trade and have no base of operations to work out of.
- The family gets 20 Gold Crowns worth of stock to trade at events, which is replenished annually at the start of a gaming year if one of the characters has returned home during the Winter Period.

- Shop/ Shops: The Major Trade operation is run out of one large shop or three smaller ones, located in a specified location within one specified nation. The character running the business is helped by four additional partners (may be player characters sharing the investment risks otherwise the partners will be generated as non-player characters under the control of the Trade Referee).
- The shop/ shops share 20 Gold Crowns worth of Stock to trade with if an event is at that location.
- The Shop Owner (or owners) share an annual income of 20 Gold Crown profit issued at the start of a gaming year.

Major Trade Operations costs: 30 Experience Points that may be shared between player characters investing in the business.

Level Four: National Trade Operation:

- Trading Family: The National Trading Family should consist of ten additional family members (may be player characters or they may be generated as non-player characters under the control of the Trade Referee with families of their own – imagine the plot potential!) that travel to trade and have no base of operations to work out of.
- The family gets 40 Gold Crowns worth of stock to trade at events, which is replenished annually at the start of a gaming year if one of the characters has returned home during the Winter Period.

- Shop/ Shops: The National Trade operation is run out of many shops littered throughout one specified nation. The character running the business is helped by five additional partners (may be player characters sharing the investment risks otherwise the partners will be generated as a non-player character under the control of the Trade Referee) along with many employees (these should be non-player characters and a source of minor plot controlled by the Trade Referee mediating with the National Referee where they are located).
- The shops share 40 Gold Crowns worth of Stock to trade with if an event is at that location.
- The Shop Owner (or owners) share an annual income of 40 Gold Crown profits issued at the start of a gaming year.

National Trade Operations costs: 50 Experience Points that may be shared between player characters investing in the business.

Level Five: International Business Magnate:

The International Trade operation is run out of many shops littered throughout the international community of the Elemental Union – shops in Void Nations should be role-played. The character running the business is helped by six additional partners (may be player characters sharing the investment risks otherwise the partners will be generated as non-player characters under the control of the Trade Referee) along with many, many employees (these should be non-player characters and a source of minor plot controlled by the Trade Referee mediating with the National Referee’s where they are located).
- The shops get 50 Gold Crowns worth of Stock to trade with if an event is at that location.
- The Shop Owner (or owners) share an annual income of 50 Gold Crown profit issued at the start of a gaming year.

International Trade Operations costs: 100 Experience Points that may be shared between player characters investing in the business.
